It's the little things

April 9th, 2008 (11:10 am)
cheerful

Hanging out in: At work
Feeling: cheerful

Things that have made me happy in the past few days:

  • No reading for my Tuesday class
  • Wearing a dress and boots today
  • A perfect parallel parking job in one try
  • A new Lucky magazine in the mail
So, what little things make you happy?

Feeling: proud

This is basically a total self-congratulatory post, but damnit, I'm proud of myself so you all get to listen! :D

I just finished writing the first draft of the final chapter of the body of my thesis! After this, the only big chunk of writing I have left to do is conclusions and then I'll do a few additions here and there throughout the intro and body chapters and line-edit for clarity. The real excitement is that I'm actually really proud of what I've written. I'm the biggest nerd ever and actually really enjoy writing research papers and the like, but usually when I've finished something I know it's good or mediocre or whatever, but I've not put real actual strenuous effort into it. This I have worked my ass off on, so it feels like an actual accomplishment, which is a fantastic natural high I have to say.

So, this chapter, weighing in at just over 25 pages and the longest I've written, puts me at a total of 115 pages and over 46,000 words since November. Good lord I am good. :D

Feeling: sleepy

Oi, guys, how do breaks go by so fast?! I've just got the weekend left of spring break then it's just two months until graduation, gah. I am so not ready for that. It seems like I've spent my whole break doing nothing but eating and watching old episodes of Bones, at least when not at work. Not that that's not a good use of time, I just want another week to get my shit together!

On the happier scale, I got my hair cut today, so it's all short and spiky again, yay! Also, Adriana and I had a taco/movie night last night, and I have to say that everyone should see the movie Penelope. Sooo adorable. There was one significant plot point I disliked, but James McAvoy and the set/wardrobe choices totally made up for it. I desperately want Christina Ricci's whole wardrobe (and Reese Witherspoon's wing-emblazoned Vespa!)

So, moral of the story is, I have massive amounts of writing to do over the next fiveish days and cannot for the life of me get motivated, because all I'm doing is watching tv and online shopping for cute clothes that I can't afford to buy. Not that any of that's unusual for me.

quixotic

I hope everyone's weekend and Easter (if you celebrate it, that is!) went well! I'm coming down from the high of having Jennifer here and trying to mix relaxing with work and homework for Spring Break. It was great having Jennifer here; we did some fantastic shopping and went to the Cape on a beautiful day to visit the tourist sites in Plymouth and the beach and have seafood. Easter was spent with Jennifer's brother and his girlfriend dying Easter eggs and eating Thai food.

I'm in a weird mood now since I have a lot of work to do but really want to enjoy my spring break, so I'm trying to break it down into manageable sections. Plus it's always a letdown after Jennifer leaves, although this time is easier because she'll be back in just a week and a half!

TV gushing: How fantastic were the two Torchwoods this week? First of all, omg Jack and Ianto office!sex scene! If I were Gwen I would have taken them up on that naked hide-and-seek offer in a heartbeat. :P And I love the backstory episode, I loved learning more about everyone, Jack and Ianto especially. My heart broke for Ianto as he walked away after the dinosaur catching with tears in his eyes, knowing he was using Jack to save Lisa but liking him at the same time. Oh, and the lesbian Torchwood leaders? Hardcore.

AND DOCTOR WHOOOOOO NEXT WEEK. Best news in weeks. I love that they're going straight from TW to DW without a break, it's brilliant. Especially since we still have to wait a bit for Bones, House, Supernatural, et al, and The L Word just finished with the most disappointing finale ever.

excited

Feeling: excited

Man, I've fallen way behind on posting. There aren't really a million super exciting things happening right now, but one terribly amazingly wonderful thing is that it's now less than a day until Jennifer is here! We haven't been together since January - seriously, long distance relationships blow.

I'm more or less starting my spring break the moment she gets here, I just have class and work before she arrives tomorrow, and one class on Friday, then break starts officially! Unfortunately, after she leaves on Monday I have to crack down and do work.

Other things that are exciting....ummmm....Oh, The Riches starts up again tonight!!! In that vein, I also have a ticket (in a sort of good seat, even) to go see Eddie when he comes here to Boston in April!!! It's the night I finish my thesis and everything so it'll be a lovely reward at the end of all that. And, my daddy bought it so I didn't have to pay, haha.

That's about the excitement for now, seriously, my life is not that interesting.

gloomy

Feeling: gloomy

Ok, I'm tired of being an adult now. Can I not be one anymore?

My car died. My beautiful, lovely, six-month-old, five-thousand-miles car. :( Not permanently, obviously, but enough that I've been on the phone with the service department at the dealer and the roadside assistant guy for the past hour. Not because they aren't being lovely, they're so helpful, go Subaru! But because the car is parked in a garage and they won't be able to get the tow truck into it so I somehow have to come up with a way of moving it out. And we do have a car assist service on campus, but they're out at lunch and won't answer their phones. GAH.

I seriously just want my daddy here so he can deal with all this.

UPDATE: Yay, just a dead battery. It took a temporary jump and a check at the dealer to fix, no towing necessary. I feel slightly like an idiot for not knowing it was the battery in the first place, but what can you do?

Grooving to: Garth! - Sevens

I am in a delightfully good mood today. It's sort of sunny and warm-ish outside so I dressed cute today for the first time in weeks! With jewelry and everything! That's rare lately. I also just got back from quite a fruitful trip to target. I went to check out the new Go line, which was sadly disappointing. I'm so over the trend of everything being tent-like and having ruffles everywhere. Also, I'm an adult and don't want to wear baby-doll dresses all the time. There was this one exquisite vintage-y looking top with lace and pleating that I loved, but it made me look like a giant box :( I don't know what people have against waists these days. I did get a few more of my favorite tank tops - they're these super soft, long, comfy tops that they have in a million (usually ugly, but sometimes lovely) colors. I own at least fifteen now, I wear them with everything.

But, they did have The L Word dvds on sale, so I now have seasons 1, 2, and 4. Especially after watching this week's episode, which was basically just sex for the last ten minutes, I'm back in love with the show. It has its ups and downs, but there's lots of hot naked women, so it can't be all bad.

I also got more of those organizer fabric drawer thingies and I'm very excited to re-organize some of my stuff. It makes me so happy to have everything put away and neat. So, I'm off to organize things and then do some reading for this week's classes!

ETA: I don't know how I forgot this the first time around, but how excited are we all for a fourth season of Supernatural?!?! I love that they announced it so early instead of being bastards and making us wait. YAY!!!

Alright, guys, I might have a proper response post after I watch the episode one more time, cause I think my brain exploded and I can't remember all the awesome bits right now.

Is it because we're awesome?Collapse )
